Self-Setup Shopping List

Everything you need to order from Freematics to provision and flash your own devices — no middleman required.

Per-Vehicle Items

Order one of each for every vehicle

  • Freematics OBD-II Device

Choose based on your fleet needs: Model B ($129), Model H ($150), Model A ($79.90), or ONE F1 ($79.90). See comparison above for details.

  • SIM Card Cellular models only

Required for Model B and Model H. Any carrier with 4G LTE coverage works (data-only SIM is fine). ~30-50 MB/month per device.

One-Time Setup Equipment

Buy once, use for all your devices

  • MicroUSB Data Cable

For connecting the device to your computer to flash firmware. Any microUSB data cable works — just make sure it's a data cable, not charge-only. Freematics also sells one in their store if you need it.

Optional: OBD-II Emulator

The Freematics OBD-II Emulator lets you bench-test devices at your desk without needing a truck. Nice to have for testing, but not required for flashing firmware.

No special adapter needed: Flashing is done through the device's own built-in microUSB port. Just plug the USB cable directly into the Freematics device — no emulator or special adapter required.

Frequently Asked Questions

For the Model B and Model H (cellular models), yes — you'll need a data SIM card. Any carrier with 4G/LTE coverage works. Typical data usage is under 50MB/month per device. The Model A and the original ONE (F1) use WiFi or Bluetooth — no SIM needed.
Plug the device into your vehicle's OBD-II port, then go to Assets > OBD Devices in WeighFaster. Use the Setup Wizard for guided step-by-step registration, or click Add Device to enter the serial number manually. Assign it to a vehicle, and the system will begin receiving telemetry data within minutes. For detailed WiFi, Bluetooth, and cellular configuration, see our interactive Setup Guide.
Model B is our top recommendation for most fleets — it has built-in 4G LTE, GPS, and works independently without needing the driver's phone. Model H is required for Class 6–8 trucks with 24V electrical systems and J1939 diagnostic protocols. Model A is the budget option that pairs with the driver's phone for data relay. The Freematics ONE (F1) is a budget starter — it uses WiFi and requires firmware flashing via Freematics Builder.
Just two things: the Freematics OBD-II device itself and a microUSB data cable (not charge-only) to connect it to your computer for firmware flashing. For cellular models (B and H), you'll also need a SIM card. Flashing is done through the device's built-in microUSB port — no special adapter or emulator needed. Optionally, an OBD-II Emulator is handy for bench-testing at a desk. See our Self-Setup Shopping List for the full breakdown, then follow the Setup Guide and Firmware Manager for step-by-step instructions.
No. WeighFaster's $1,500/month platform fee includes unlimited OBD devices, unlimited vehicles, and unlimited users. The only hardware cost is the one-time purchase of the Freematics device itself.
Real-time GPS coordinates, vehicle speed, RPM, engine load, coolant temperature, fuel level, odometer readings, battery voltage, G-force events (hard braking, sharp turns), DTC fault codes, and VIN. This data powers live tracking, HOS compliance, fuel analytics, geofence alerts, and driver scorecards.
